Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • PDFs on Southampton Renaissance Prospectus
  • Some PDFs on this page do not fully meet accessibility requirements due to missing document structure elements, such as:
    • Headings that do not follow a logical order (WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.3.1 – Info and Relationships).
    • Lack of an H1 heading for document structure (WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.3.1 – Info and Relationships).
    • PDFs not specifying a default language (WCAG 2.2 criterion 3.1.1 – Language of Page).
    • Long PDFs that do not contain bookmarks for navigation (WCAG 2.2 criterion 2.4.5 – Multiple Ways).
    • PDFs with weak or missing titles (WCAG 2.2 criterion 2.4.2 – Page Titled).
    • Insufficient tagging, making the document difficult to interpret with assistive technology (WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.3.1 – Info and Relationships).
    • PDFs that are not machine-readable (WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.1.1 – Non-text Content).
  • We are reviewing all PDFs to either replace them with accessible web pages or update them to meet accessibility standards.
  • Property Search Page
  • The default WordPress image block used on this page does not support aria-label input, making it difficult for users relying on screen readers to interpret certain images. This issue cannot be resolved due to limitations within the WordPress core functionality.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Third-party integrations and content

We require that any third-party systems integrated into our website comply with WCAG 2.2 AA. However, third-party systems are managed by external providers, limiting our ability to make modifications. We are actively reviewing all third-party integrations and liaising with suppliers to request accessibility improvements where possible.

Our third-party integrations include:

  • CookieYes – Third-party plugin
  • This third-party plugin may not fully meet accessibility standards. We are currently reviewing its compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • reCAPTCHA – Third-party plugin
  • This third-party plugin is used for security purposes but may not be fully accessible for all users, particularly those using assistive technologies. We are reviewing alternative solutions or additional guidance for users who experience difficulties.
  • Flipbook Plugin – Third-party
  • The flipbook plugin used on our website may not be fully accessible to users who rely on screen readers or keyboard navigation. This fails WCAG 2.2 criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) and 2.4.3 (Focus Order).
  • Contact Form 7 – Third-party plugin
  • This widely used contact form plugin may have accessibility issues with form labels and error message visibility. We are reviewing its compliance and considering alternative solutions where necessary.

PDFs and documents
Older PDFs on our website may not fully meet accessibility requirements. The regulations do not require us to fix PDFs published before 23 September 2018 unless they are essential for providing a service. However, we are committed to improving document accessibility wherever possible. Any new PDFs published will comply with accessibility standards.
